One of the MCP team’s favourite roles is sharing our knowledge with young people eager to learn about how we care for homes and communities.

This year, we have supported several students through various schemes and initiatives— and we’ve loved every minute of it!

Work Experience Placements

Runnymede Borough Council offers work experience placements to pupils at local schools via their website. MCP has been delighted to support this initiative by offering a week’s placement with the MCP team, working from our co-location space in Runnymede’s civic offices. We welcomed local pupil, Sam, to our team for a week in May. After a day of induction and health and safety training, Sam spent four days with our repairs team seeing firsthand the work and communities we’re involved with. This included:
  • spending half a day with Beth in the commercial team,
  • spending half a day with Nigel in the voids team, and
  • visiting residents' properties, shadowing while the engineer completed lock changes and some guttering works.

We hope that offering work experience to young people helps them make informed decisions about their next steps and career path. To find out more about apprenticeships with MCP, please visit our careers page. You’ll also find our A Day in the Life of a Trade Apprentice video which showcases a typical day for a trade apprentice in our team.

Inspiring Future Careers

Our Contracts Manager, Louis Jones, supported Holly Lodge School’s careers day in May. He was invited to attend the Sandwell-based school’s inspiration event to talk about his career and career pathway to Year 9 students. This event followed a day of mock interviews last November, offering valuable practise to learners. Louis and the Year 9 students found the eventsenjoyable and rewarding.

Looking ahead …

We are involved with exciting projects supporting young people during the coming months:

‘Housing for Women’ Event

This initiative focuses on encouraging women to explore opportunities in the construction and maintenance industry. Planning is in its early stages and we look forward to sharing further details with you. Watch this space!

‘Build The Future’ Careers Event

MCP has been invited to take part in a careers event taking place in October at the Pavilion Pupil Study Centre in Whetstone. The Pavilion is a stepping stone which provides young people with opportunities to reinvent themselves and develop the confidence to be successful in the future. We’ve been invited to take part to support our work on the Barnet Homes contract. We’re looking forward to it!

CSCS Upskilling

Our team is supporting Sovereign Network Group’s initiative to upskill young people to achieve their CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card and start their construction career.
